After getting at least 1,000 gold, the player should have enough money and prestige to buy Men at Arms and mercenaries and begin warring and taking land within the North Sea Highlands. The best place to target is Denmark (Jylland and Sjælland in the 867 start date) since it's nearby and has lots of land to pillage. This will generate prestige and gold alongside weakening raided counties.
Regardless of which character the player decides, they'll want to begin their run by raiding and declaring some small wars. Despite all this, it can be done and can even result in getting one of the most difficult achievements in the game, just behind " Mother of Us All." Taking the land in and of itself is a challenge, but holding it for that long is a race against time, since dying leads to tons of rebellions and subterfuge.
